Ring- an accessory or a lot more??
“A tiny little piece of accessory, yet so much beauty, history, story and mystery..
So deceptive is the size.
‘The Ring’ for centuries has tied hearts together, symbolised power for some and slavery for some, has been used as a symbol for dynasties and empires, has marked friendships and used as a seal by many..
So dear is this shinning piece of metal that it’s placed on the vein that goes straight to the heart and is a companion even in the grave for this who have known true love.”
A peacock ring made of silver, worn on the right hand, middle finger. It’s an elaborately carved ring, with a very prominent design, so it is best worn alone.
The existence of ring goes back to more that 6000 years back and some evidence of its presence is there in almost every civilisation.
It’s really interesting, how it has played so many roles-
. A sign of love
. symbol of marriage
. to seal correspondences and authenticate documents
. honour friendships
. talisman for protection
. fortune/destiny changer
. symbolising faith
. symbol of power and wealth
. And of course, it’s use simply for beauty.
The history that “rings” have is extremely vast and extremely interesting. Various civilisations, wore rings in a particular way and different kind of rings played different roles in their day today life. Even the setting of the ring, the design and the stones used, all has a story attached, but thats for another day..
Let me tell you about how to wear rings, various styles that can be created by them and things to keep in mind while deciding what ring to wear..
‘Don’t take rings as a mere accessory. The rings you wear, sends a message to the world about your commitments, beliefs, style, at times achievements, social status and how developed your aesthetics are.’
Pay attention to what you are wearing and how you are wearing!!
Here I have put together a few ways and styles of wearing rings.
Have a look…
1
A large statement ring worn in ring finger (preferably in the right hand). A very striking, colourful and ornate piece, therefore worn alone. Any other ring worn with it would dilute the impact. This ring must be paired with either similar shade of clothes or neutral hues or totally bold colors in contrast. Better not to wear with a very colourful print or a busy pattern.
2
Another statement ring in silver and colorful stones, worn solo. It’s really strong in presence, so wear with bold colors and do not over accessorise. A pair of matching earrings and a subdued bangle in silver will be good.
3
A traditional Indian ring (kundan work) worn in the middle finger of the left hand and worn solo again. It might be traditional, but goes really well with all western outfits and would go well with just about any color. Wear an elaborate earing in gold with this, and you would rule the evening.
4
Another Indian traditional statement ring, that could be worn in any finger besides the thumb or the little finger. It would go well with traditional or western wear. Keep the accessories matching and don’t overdo it.
5
One of my favourite statement rings, worn with a silver knot bangle. This silver ring has small stones all over and it should be worn in the index finger with either black or white outfit. Plain silver earrings should be the only other jewellery. You could try prints too with this but nothing too glittery.
6
A pearl and diamond ring worn in the little finger. It’s a fun ring, wear it with anything, besides gold..
7
A bangle and a ring combined piece. Very contemporary and ornate concept. It should be worn only in the evenings and with clothes that match with it. You could also do color blocking with this and wear it with a contrast color outfit. Maybe a neck piece and bag in the same color as the ring would look good if color blocking.

A party on my fingers!
Bohemian looking rings, stacked to get you the attention you deserve. There is nothing like too many rings if stacked well.
Stacking means wearing more than two rings together. There is no right or wrong way to do it. Just wear your smaller rings on top and bigger statement rings on the bottom. This will balance out the look. Other than that mix all that you want.
9
Two statement rings worn in both the hands with a matching bracelet. The round ring is silver with smokey topaz and the leopard ring is silver with very tiny shiny stones. The bracelet is silver with clear topaz. The engraving in the bracelet and the topaz ring go well together, tying all the pieces together. Do not over accessorise at all as the 3 pieces here are very ornate and powerful.
10
A gold chunky ring and two plane bands- minimalist and maximalist at the same! time.
Will go with almost anything.
11
The perfect multi-ring look when you don’t want to wear wear anything too big or elaborate. Vary the size and shapes to prevent is from looking monotonous.
12
When less is more and besides the message that you possess beautiful jewellery, there is no other message you want to give.
Family heirlooms at their fabulous best!
13
When it comes to rings, nothing’s more rock ‘n’ roll than fingers covered in diamonds and bling. Don’t over accessories with these. Pairing any other jewellery will be a bit tough as there are a lot of colors here already. So either don’t add anything or be very careful.
14
There is no such thing as too many gems.
A large statement ring along with other smaller rings stacked in complimentary colors and motifs.
15
Smaller rings for a bigger impact and a burst of femininity.
Even ring distribution is not required for an awesome multi-ring look.
16
Two statement rings in two colors, set in one metal(here gold). Pair them with same metal plain earnings and a bold color contrast outfit.
17
A burst of green!!
There are three shades of green used here. Take any color and wear different shades of that color. Looks beautiful when paired with similar tone outfit and accessory.
18
Plain bands too can be beautiful. These bands bound together by a chain look dramatic and are showstoppers.
19
A shell set in silver. Pair them them with anything you like.
While wearing rings, keep a few things in mind:
- Be confident. If you are trying out a ring which is new to you and you are a bit hesitant, wear it around the house for a few days. This will make you more comfortable and more confident.
- . Know the details of your rings. When people ask you questions about the metal, stone, style of the ring/rings you are wearing, you should be able to answer it.
- Wear proportionate rings. If your hands are big, please wear big rings. If your hands are small, don’t go for real big rings. Use smaller ones.
- Balance out your jewellery. Don’t overcrowd one hand and leave one empty. Wear something in the other too.
- Wear matching metals.
Whenever I talk about rings, this beautiful poem comes to my mind-
One ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them.
Three rings for the Elven-kings under the sky,
Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone,
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die,
One for the Dark Lord on his dark throne
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
One Ring to rule them all, One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the Shadows lie.
by J.R.R. Tolkien
Rings are beautiful. They can make everyday outfit look like a special wear attire within seconds. There are so many styles and types, you would never get bored of trying the combinations. Be a little imaginative, a little adventurous, a little bold and take a step out of your comfort zone.. Then try new styles and combinations that come to your mind. The outcome will always be fabulous and you would definitely love the attention that your hands get. ‘Maybe a Turkish evil eye ring would be required then!!’ 😉
So go ahead and try out the rings.
